The “Circle of Giving” component of our NLW Grant Project is a collaboration to support the dogs and cats cared for by the Animal Shelter of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County. Five of these big red tubs went out to branch locations this week. Thank you Mint Hill, South County, Mountain Island, Morrison, and University City Staff members for agreeing to be donation areas. And here’s to all the women and men, kids and families who volunteer to help the animals in need at the Animal Shelter.
A Bit of NLW History
March 19, 2008 at 1:30 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentStraight from the American Library Association’s Web Site, a bit of history about National Library week:
In the mid-1950s, research showed that Americans were spending less on books and more on radios, televisions and musical instruments. Concerned that Americans were reading less, the ALA and the American Book Publishers formed a nonprofit citizens organization called the National Book Committee in 1954. The committee’s goals were ambitious. They ranged from “encouraging people to read in their increasing leisure time” to “improving incomes and health” and “developing strong and happy family life.” In 1957, the committee developed a plan for National Library Week based on the idea that once people were motivated to read, they would support and use libraries. With the cooperation of ALA and with help from the Advertising Council, the first National Library Week was observed in 1958 with the theme “Wake Up and Read!” National Library Week was observed again in 1959, and the ALA Council voted to continue the annual celebration. When the National Book Committee disbanded in 1974, ALA assumed full sponsorship.

Who Am I?

I found it very hard to write, but I like all things visual. I love taking pictures and getting lost in nature. Hiking high up in the mountain and ran into a bear (a black bear of course) was one of my many perfect days. I don’t talk very much, but I think a lot. I think therefore I breathe. Look and you will see. Listen and you will hear.
I enjoy working with people; all kind of people. They amaze and amuse me.I dream to travel to every country in this planet. Being in strange settings and seeing totally strangers who are different but the same in so many ways have contributed greatly to who I am.
Who am I? Why I am here?
To be honest, I really don’t know. I still am searching for that answer myself.
However, this is what I would like to tell you why I am here writing this blog. Tony Tallent who is one of the most talented people I know and who also appear to be my boss asked me to be a creative force behind this groundbreaking blog- circle of knowledge. What can I say, I have weakness for challenge so here I am.
I will be one of the contributors of this blog and bring you variety of cool knowledge as well as sharing news and ideas that happen in our community.
I am an open book waiting to be written and re-written and let the knowledge be known and roll. Thank you for reading, Varanrat

Circles of Change
March 14, 2008 at 8:49 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentJust a note about a change in the building of this blog. Originally, we were using Blogger as to host our online discussion. Recently, we’ve migrated to WordPress. A bit of learning curve going on with using another online product. But, this is all about learning… Tony
